Hi Friend!

My name is Lauren Elise Castro and I just graduated from The University of Texas at Austin. I studied journalism and received a minor in media and entertainment industries. Over the course of four years, I’ve had a few internships that have taught me the importance of journalism, and why it is we do what we do: Austin Woman Magazine, Los Angeles Magazine, Flaunt Magazine, and Texas Monthly. However, some of my biggest learning curves occurred on campus where I worked for the newspaper, The Daily Texan, and for the campus podcasting house, The Drag. Working with other students and doing what we all love is so empowering and inspiring– I can’t wait to see what we do.

For a few years, I struggled in explaining to friends and family what exactly I want to do and what I do. Now I know that storytelling, not just writing, is where I belong. I’ve been taught the importance of the craft and how to find the heart of a piece. It’s all about humanity and what aspects resonate with others as we are all on this journey together.

As for now, I’m freelancing at The Daily Dot and will continue as the communications and marketing producer at The Drag for the summer.
